Backgammon Openings Book A by Nack Ballard and Paul Weaver – The only book in existence that starts to meticulously cover the opening phase of the game. When I started out in backgammon circa 2005-2006 I wondered why there wasn't an abundance of information already out there on the opening. I knew that all other games I could think of started by deconstructing the most crucial and frequently occurring part of the game whether it be poker or chess. The simple fact is game after game after game you will face a lot of the same decisions. Not only is it necessary to know how to come to the correct play in these specific decisions, but other choices will arrive when the game is further developed that if you understood the opening principles would drive you to the correct choice. This is also the only book today that holds up to my rollout standards. There is a lot of solid information packed in it for players of all levels. Each time you go through it you're likely to pick up some subtlety that Nack and Paul caught on to. As Francois Tardieu pointed out, "worth reading at least twice".
