I've devoted too much time, to say the least, to the opening two moves in backgammon. I feel that since in absolutely every game of backgammon you play there will be an opening roll and a reply, you should do you best not to squander equity at this early stage in the game, especially since it's something that can be learned by rote. You should not simply memorize it though, you should strive to understand the underlying concepts of the opening game. If you have any questions, comments, or would like to see something rolled out further, please let me know by posting in the feedback section of my forums which can be found here:  bgonline forums
