I am an intermediate-level backgammon player from the San Francisco Bay Area. I began playing in the late 1970s, and played regularly throughout the 1980s. Back then, I was a student of the Barclay Cooke "lead-with-your-chin-and-then-play-a-backgame" school of backgammon. After a two-decade layoff, I returned to the game in November 2009. I was sure surprised to learn that almost everything I knew was wrong!
