In Response To: XG Reader? (Question also for Xavier) (Higonefive)

I can see the value of a reader program. however, like often, this is not a question of complexity, but a matter of finding spare time to do that.

As for the XG formet, this is not a secret. I did not publish the format because it is a rather complicated. A XG file contains in fact 4 files that are compressed together using Zlib.

  • the game file itself (Binary fixed size structure).
  • the rollout results (Binary fixed size structure).
  • the comments, in RTF format, delimited with CR+LF
  • a header record (1st record of the game) for quickly reading file information.

On top of that the file is prefixed by a Rich Save Game structure (see here) which was a something Microsoft introduced in Vista, but dropped in Windows 7 (which is a pity, IMO, Vista user can see a thumbnail of the game and other information in the explorer such as player, length, match comment etc..)

I will document the whole format one day.
