In Response To: Recent Major Tournament Tough One for the Wizards (Keene)

I once met a player in a TMG tournament whose strategy was to win on time. I had finished my match early, and started watching the match where I would meet the winner. The play dragged on and on, with one of the players actively going for a never-ending backgame. The opponent, as myself, completely forgot about the clock, pondering over all the unusual positions that came up. Suddenly the backgame-player had won on time, and from the speed of the opponent's play I don't think (s)he saw it coming. The backgame-player employed the same strategy against me, but having seen it once I didn't fall for this tactic. Playing as fast, or a little faster than (s)he did was all it took, it was not as if (s)he was playing to win the game.
