Why is dmp so important?

To expand on a couple of Bob's points:
1) It comes up often, both from a 1a 1a score and from when a cube makes it dmp.
And not only do you need to know how to play the checkers after the cube, you also need to estimate DMP winning chances in order to assess the cube action accurately. DMP is thus the ultimate foundation for METs and match cube actions.
4) The best play for dmp is often the correct play for other scores.
More generally, at any score, you often find yourself needing to estimate your winning chances (or at least which checker play wins more often), and your DMP winning chances are often a good approximation to your ATS winning chances.
