Why is dmp so important?

This is an interesting idea but I personally wouldn't go that far, mostly because this would mean postponing learning about the cube until quite late in one's education.

Mastering something like backgammon is like mastering a language. A native speaker learns all the crucial features of the language early on, and those lessons are permanently burned in. A late learner makes occasional egregious mistakes that a native speaker would never make. I think it's important to have the cube be part of one's native tongue, which means introducing it early and developing an intuitive feel for it, rather than waiting until later.

The same remarks apply to gammons, though less strongly in my opinion.
