Incomplete explanation

This is a great problem. I would not have considered breaking the 6pt here.

Two factors that seem to be important, that have not been mentioned yet.

1. Breaking the 6pt costs Blue some gammon wins. For a score-based cube like this one, one should take that into account.

2. The amount of time that White has before breaking the midpoint matters. Here White has plenty of time. But if White may be forced to run from the midpoint next turn then breaking the 7pt becomes more attractive.
