How do you compare to the Giants?

In your variant it is less clear to slot for a couple of reasons.

1) You would be playing with 2 blots.

2) You'd have a weak duplication of own 4s but still a duplication.

3) Your position is less front loaded if you play "safe" (8, 10) compared to the "safe" play in the other position.

4) If you play 8, 10, then you'll have 3 builders aimed at the 7p. In the other position you will only have 2 builders aimed at the 7 point. Generally the more builders which are bearing on a point you want to make, the less inclined you are to slot the point because you have more chances to make the point naturally. Here the cost of being hit is quite high so you want to avoid the risk when you still have a decent number of constructive rolls after the "safe play". The gain of making the bar point is the same as in the other position but here the risk of being hit is higher because of the increased blot count.

So, here I'd just play 8, 10.
