9:30 AM Sunday starting time means I am not attending

BenF: play until 9 or 10 [the previous night] and then get up to play by 9 or even 8 [a.m. the next day] ...
Tom Keith: That would be my preference too. But I can understand why tournaments who hope to attract players from the West Coast don't do that.
I also think that playing until the wee hours is no good, and would much rather get up early to play than stay up late.
In particular, Tom Keith brings up a point that I want to expand on -- the tournaments on the west coast should be a lot more early to bed, early to rise than the ones on the east coast. I *really* don't want to be jet lagged by 3 hours, and be forced to play some match until 2am Pacific time, which is a ridiculous 5am Eastern time. I get up at 5am on some days, so this is particularly difficult for me to do.
Mostly, as a tournament participant, I should be afforded a reasonable gap between the end of play at night and the beginning of play the next day. I think 10 hours should be the minimum -- I need an hour to wind down at night, and an hour before play to get up and shake out the cobwebs. So if you have a 10am start time on Sunday, I should not be forced to play past midnight on Saturday.
