Bearing off against an deuce-point anchor

If 4/off 4/3 is correct here then it will be an answer to a question that Steve Mellen posed back in September 2011. At the time, I searched briefly for an example but didn't find one.
Here, 4/off 4/3 leaves no immediate blotting rolls but it creates a persistent gap that could lead to blots later. I would play 5/off despite the risk of an immediate blotting 44.
By the way, I'm not sure why you make special mention of "too many spares on the 1pt." It's true that if you're dumping spares on the 1pt then you're typically wasting pips and not bearing off as quickly as you'd like. However, I think the main thing you have to worry about, especially here where it's effectively DMP, is blotting. Having stacks on high points means that you risk being forced to blot on an internal point with a bad roll.
