This is interesting! I'm guessing that the fact that White is running out of time has something to do with what's going on here. By the time the 4pt gap has a chance to wreak its damage on us, White's anchor may be gone. Suppose we shuffle White's forward checkers around so that getting hit is still very bad, but White has time to hold the anchor longer. Does that change the result?
