Wicked wench or black pearl?

White is outboarded 5:4, with a blot. White has an anchor, Black owns the bar point. The anchor is blocked by the 10 point, the bar point by the mid point. Both are on TMP, with dead checkers and no spares. The race could be still everybody’s ballgame, but after moving, Black leads by 13 pips.

First, there is no safe play. It is a decision between assets. Which is to unload and how is the tradeoff? The fivepoint board is not for sale. In the upcoming shootout it could pay extraordinary dividend. Braking the 10 point is antithematic. Ahead in the race, breaking connectivity, leaving the bar point stranded in a wasteland feels not right. Looking furthermore on the 10 point as a pitfall in the jungle for the silverpoint to cross, it is now clear, where to pay. We need not to hold two points. And ahead in the race, it is also important to get the reverted back to the peloton.

But liquidating the bar point pays with 21 shots, in comparison to abandon the block with 13 shots and demolishing the home board with 11 shots. That leave us to the question how costly a shot will be.

And here the Black board will pay. After a return, giving up the bar point and then hitted, a dance from White will be likely TG, coming in almost D/P. And even a dance against the White board will be ND/T. A hit buys White nothing, Black will be a living dead. The White position is a wicked wench and will be never more a black pearl. The Black position is instead still running before the wind and that is the real content of pandoras box. Black should open it with 18/13/11.
