Number 1
There is a rule: “Structure supports blots” that tends to making the 5-point here. The problem with this play is that it gives white a 2/3 chance of making a 3- or 4-anchor, and it gives white a 1/3 chance of the initiative. After the triple-hit blue keeps the initiative in almost all variations and he has a great chance of making the bar-anchor or the 3-point.
Answer: b/24 6x5x4x3
Number 2
The problem with making the 4-point in this position is the great white initiative. He has a 15/36 chance of making the bar-point and a 9/36 chance of making the 4-point, that’s a total of 24/36 good things. The move 8/4 6x1 gives white only 15/36 good things (namely the hits). Being hit enlarges white’s chance of making the 4-anchor, and the gammon-cost of being hit is quite low, because of the anchor on the ace-point.

Number 3
The blue racing lead makes playing b/22 13/8 tempting, but here white’s position is rather threatening, as a matter of fact after the safe blue play white has a double, blue has a take. White doesn’t only have a lot of blitz-potential, he can also make the 4-point or bar-point with a lot of moves. The theme is quite similar to question number 2. After hitting with bar/22 6x1 white doesn’t have a double yet, and blue has a reasonable chance to make a 3-anchor.
