62S-33 At gammon-go, O = 13/7* 8/5(2) is best.
Position ID: 4HPkQSDgc/ABMA Match ID: 8IlNABAAAAAA

David’s valuable post contains many positions, and many Nactations. In this post, I comment only on Nactations of the doublet 33 thrown in reply to an opening 6-split (6xS).

The Nactations given by David (see number 4) and Nack (in the penultimate paragraph) were correct at the time, but are now dated. Prior to the advent of the Hit Convention, the plays that made a new point were assigned the capital letter, and the plays that hit on the 7pt (without making a new point) were relegated to lower case. This meant that a point-making play like 13/10(2) 8/5(2) got the capital letter, and the hitting play 13/7* 8/5(2) was given lower case. Today those assignments are reversed (see table).

Nactation Traditional
Notation
N 13/7*, 6/3(2)
n 13/10(2), 6/3(2)
O 13/7*, 8/5(2)
o 13/10(2), 8/5(2)

Under the Hit/More/Six Rule, making or retaining more points in the inner board continues to outrank any hit in any quadrant. Outside the home board, however, hitting beats making or retaining more points. That means that plays like 13/7* 8/5(2) are now assigned the capital letter.

The board diagram above shows 62S-33, however, the same Nactations are are valid for 63S-33 and 64S-33, as well.
