I have run a lot af tournaments in Denmark as TD, and I think it is very important to try to attract newcomers at every tournament.

If there is a local club where the tournament is arranged, coorporate with them, and maybe advertise in the local media.

Usually, I arrange a very cheap flight, one-day only, with an added prize. It could be a backgammon board, or a free entry in the next tournament. The format should be simple, with short matches, and a volunteer or two to answer questions, to make the newcomers feel welcome and secure. If they feel the atmosphere, and even win a match or two, chances are that they are "hooked".

The newcomers of today, are the championship players of tomorrow, never forget that....
