This link is pretty strong evidence that there's more luck in chess than backgammon :)

Stefanova was gifted two full points by 2500+ GMs in a way that I doubt any of the other contenders even dreamed of. It was rapid, true, but even if it was blitz it would be considered very lucky at this level to be gifted a mate-in-one and a mate-in-two in losing positions.

Maybe this will be like the Malas Monte Carlo final and encourage all kinds of people to take up chess :)
