While I can certainly appreciate your point of view, I am happy that the majority of players don't feel the same way. If all the non-sharks would stay at home because they feel outclassed by other players, then there would be no tournaments for the sharks.

I have played in many tournaments in Denmark which even for a small country means travel cost + accomodation cost if the event spans more than 1 day. This means that it is always going to be negative EQ going to tournaments.

As others point out, the social aspect is a big plus, one which is hard to quantify. For some players this is the main reason for participating in tournaments.
