I would agree with you, Jake. I think a beginner is more likely to encounter short match with many easy rolls, enabling them to "luck" into a low PR than to run-out on a full-size table.

Jake: "To do them consistently is a different story."

Henrik: "Good pool players run many racks in 9-ball, only the top notch BG players play consistently under 2.0."

Agreed, once more... which is why I posed the question in a student/mentor situation.

Personally, as someone with a probabalistic skew in all my thoughts, I found it easier to chance into a sub-2 PR match, than to run a rack. I'm sure this makes me biased.
