After the hit, you are up in the race and will play with only one checker back against 3. Your task will be to run home without getting hit. Now if you play 13/11, three bad things could happen: 1. You are hit immediately with a 64 fly shot. 2. You get hit on the 22, can consolidate your blots in the outfield, and you get hit in the outfield next turn. 3. You run out next turn but cannot consolidate the blots, and get hit in the outfield.
So you play 10/8 to avoid these scenarios. Safety is more important here than the 'building power' of a blot on the 11 (and 10).
