In Response To: Playing to wrong match length (Phil Simborg)

I would have liked to see the following rule recommended:

DEAD CUBE. When the cube level is high enough to ensure that the match will end if the player holding the cube wins the current game, that game shall be played to conclusion at the present cube level.

In the example from your document (2a redoubles 4a), two irregular mistakes were made: one terrible (doubling), the other even worse (dropping). Backgammon software developers have gone so far as to make doubling in the first place impossible. I think disallowing it in live play is fair and represents good sportsmanship.
