The official rules that the Giants Invitational will follow are the current ABT Rules. However, if I find a rule to be ambiguous I will refer to the Bower/Horton/Simborg set of rules for clarification. There are a few special rules that will be in place and they are as follows.

1. All matches will be legal plays only

2. If a die lands flat on top of a checker it will not be considered cocked.

3. Players are allowed by mutual agreement to play on a computer only if the match is also projected onto a screen/wall so spectators can watch. Evaluation and pip count must be turned off.

Below is the complete tournament format...

STAGE 1: BACKGAMMON OLYMPIAD The Olympiad will test various backgammon skills through a series of situational events. Players will accumulate points to qualify for Stage 2. Players will be eliminated from Stage 1 when it is no longer possible to earn enough points to qualify for the playoffs.

Each round will be a best two out of three 9-point matches

Stage 1 will be completed on Thursday May 23rd. The schedule for Stage 1 is tentative. Changes that occur will be dependent upon the actual time it takes to complete each session. All posted times are local to Chicago which is either CST or GMT -5hr.
