When it comes to BG I always find it strange when someone claims to have won even though the other player was luckier.

The way I see it the winner is always lucky - no matter what skill difference there is between the players. If a player is 90% to win a match, and does win - then she is lucky, because there are only two outcomes and she got the good one.

To compare with Timothy's reasoning, the better player is just slightly lucky to win (because she was favored to do so), but she is a little lucky 9 times out of 10. Whereas the second best player needs a lot of luck to win, and thus he does so rarely - 1 time out of 10. In sum they are equally lucky...
