My instinct here was to play 23/18, but I also considered 13/8 and 23/22 8/4. 13/8 is somewhat inflexible, stripping the mid and piling too many on the 8, but hopefully the split back checkers would be able to swallow most future rolls. 23/22 8/4 moves a builder too far forward. I don't like slotting the 9: if Stick hits we have 3 men back to his two, and it doesn't gain that much when it works because we can only cover with a four, breaking the mid. Nor do I much like Ian's alternate play of 24/20, 23/22 which gives Stick some targets on points he really wants, and we aren't really trying for an anchor - we just want to escape.

After all that I decided to go with my initial instinct - just get a back man moving now with 23/18 and cover all quadrants.
