It's almost a wash... I think against tougher opponents I'd close the board and go for the match win, against weaker opponents, maybe I'd make the "correct" play of breaking the 18. I think Stick made the correct play here against Weaver, and if it weren't for an unlucky roll sequence, we'd be talking about how great a play it was.
