You have not much of a racing lead. If you don't hit and White escapes or even just limps to the 11pt, the situation is quite gloomy.

Hitting is double-edged but looks more promising.

FWIW, there was a somewhat similar position analyzed extensively in an old issue of Inside Backgammon (Quiz 149, V7N4, Fall 1997). With stronger boards, no man back for the player on roll and the latter a favorite, the conclusion was that he should hit quite liberally. The last two factors push towards hitting here ; not sure about the board strengths.
