Why don't people use GammonSite?

Given the recent issues with Gridgammon, I was looking for an alternate place to play and gave GammonSite a try. It seemed to have all the main features you would want, but without any connection/disconnection issues, and with a graphical interface (looked just like XG) that looks about 20 years newer than Gridgammon.

But, where are the players? I see the site charges some nominal membership fee to unlock all the features...could that be enough to scare off all the players? Almost all tournament players bought XG despite the existence of a very good free alternative in GNU...so I am surprised that the same pool of strong players did not also migrate en masse to GammonSite.
