I like that much better! "Slants" scans much much better than 'Diags', as I'm sure you noticed in proposing the change! Starting with 'Well' or 'At' both work fine.

I like ""Then SHIFT to the MIDdles, like A-b-C""

But the 'cancel version is fine too if the concept is important. (I have to admit I'm paying more attention to the jingle than the technique!).

Any suitable phrase will serve for the final rhyme: "Like ABC" or "the count you'll see!" or "Believe you me!"
