Greetings from the Caribbean

The first day on the Divina, teaching backgammon, we advertised lessons for beginners. 20 actually showed up to learn while several others watched and stopped by during the 3 hour session. Randee and I worked with each individually and a few of them checked out boards to keep with them during the cruise (18" leatherette boards, which are perfect for cruises...we have 20 of them).

Sitting by the pool with the board open we gather quite a crowd and several who "used to play years ago"--a common theme when you expose backgammon to the public. My P40 Board attracts lots of attention but I think the Scrambler (baffle box) also makes a lot of people stop and ask questions.

Today is a 3 hour session for "intermediates" and then the next 3 days we are in ports (Puerto Rico, St. Maartin, and Nassau) so there is no backgammon.

I was surprised to see that on this cruise of 4,000 passengers, backgammon is the ONLY activity offered...I thought I would be competing with Chess, Bridge and other games, but that is not the case.

While not playing Randee and I have full use of the ship and are treated like any other passengers and we're having a great time. The theater is huge and the show last night was amazing, and we look forward to that every night at sea. The casino is huge and while they don't have my favorite game, Craps, they have everything else and they even have a holdem' game where players play against each other with an electronic dealer.

I hope that the cruise line (MSC) is happy and it will become a trend to offer backgammon on more cruises in the future.

I will give more of an update later--we've got another 8 days of cruising.
