Given that this position implies it may not be theoretically possible to calculate the equity of the initial backgammon position, I don't view it as some pedantic detail.

Let me take the other side of the argument to hear your thoughts. For any finite cube capped value 'c', it is theoretically possible to calculate the equity of the initial backgammon position. Might it be possible that as 'c' increases to arbitrarily high levels, the equity of the initial position converges ? If this were to be the case, could we assign this convergence level to be the equity of the initial position?
