Non-doublet Replies: Rules for beginners

In Response To: Non-doublet Replies: Two(?) rules for beginners (nack ballard)

I was confused about 41$-64Z and 51$-64Z (the latter not being worse than .06). However, 21$-64Z is a massive whopper, so I'll continue to list $-64R in the exceptions, which has the bonus of shedding errors of .057 and .053).

My previous wording of the hit/point rule(s) was:

(1) Hit any xpt >2pt, unless you can P > xpt.

My suggested rewording is:

(1) P >2pt, unless you can H even higher.

You will see in a minute how I qualify "H," which will mesh with an updated leftover die convention.

Below is a table that might help us figure out if the leftover die convention can be further improved. (I haven't tried to make use of it, yet.) The column headers (above the error sizes in millipoints) represent Run, from mid, Down, and Up. (Backmost is the same as U except in the one case mentioned.)

................R.....fm...........D............U

If 24/20*,......0.....57 53........bad (8/7)....bad (20/18)
.................................................or "backmost" 63 61
If 13/11*or10*,.n/a...60 22 13 9.. 60 22 13 9...0
If 13/7*,.......n/a...77 64 62 60..77 64 62 60..0
If 8/7*,........n/a...59 53 32.....59 53 32.....46 40 15 14 11 6 4 4

If 8/5*,........n/a...15...........15...........50 37 24 11
If 8/4*,........n/a...40...........bad (8/7)....32 9 8
If 8/3*,........n/a...17...........bad (8/7)....60 48 21 8.........
......................................................[beware 65H/X]
If 6/5*,........n/a...8............8............69 37 18
If 6/4*,........n/a...8 2..........bad (8/7)....17
If 6/3*,........n/a...29 4.........29 11 11.....61 23 4 3

Here is a (proposed) updated rule set:

........$/D-64R, .D-x1$, and 6xS-65 play K else R. Otherwise...

...(1) P >2pt, unless H even higher.
...(2) P, else 43Z, S, R, D.

"H" applies as in Nactation: Hit loose, only one checker, on highest point possible. However, replace Nactation's down convention with this "leftover die convention:"

........Play U, if hit is in outer board.
........From mid, if hit is elsewhere.
........If "U" or "from mid" is illegal, do the other.

BTW, I was just joking, defining this set as having only "two" rules. How or what we number it is unimportant. I think we can agree that what matters is keeping the set easy to remember, "conceptually short" if possible.
