Headphones rule in LA

In San Jose, while looking at a brochure for LA, I noticed a seemingly innocuous rule stating something along the line of "headphones may be banned at the discretion of the tournament director if requested by an opponent". Does this mean that if my opponent request that I don't wear headphones, the director can make me take them off?

I'm a little baffled by the all the new rules that are entering American tournament backgammon (none of these headphones or dice-on-checkers rules exist in international tournaments). Are they supposed to help the game? On the contrary, they are making me want to attend fewer tournaments. And although I am only one player, doesn't any rule that hinders attendance ultimately damaging to the game?
