Making the prime gives you chances of sending a 4th checker back, besides sealing the secure 6-in-a-row.

Making the five point board is more likely to keep that checker on the bar parked there. It also prevents opp from shifting to the less gammonish 23-point anchor. On the negative side there is the outlier scenario that White keeps his board until he can use it.

I haven't seen enough to talk me out of the full prime.
