No good player would ever just make a mistake. Mistakes made in an early round are due to a "lack of focus" since the stakes are not high enough yet. Stakes made in the late rounds are due to pressure. It would be interesting to test the theory that the best PRs from a tournament almost always come from the round of 8 or 16 where there is a good minimized balance between the two.
