What I love about our community is the chance to meet your heroes close up. I remember first reading Magriel's Backgammon about 12 years ago. I felt like I could walk on water.

The first tournament that I flew to was in Santa Fe about 7 years ago. One of the reason I chosoe Sante Fe was to attend the lecture by Paul. I felt like the kid that used to (maybe still does) get autographs from baseball stars. I wanted in line to have my copy of backgammon signed.

A couple of years after that I was playing doubles against him in Pittsburgh. What I want to say is that in this community we are small enough that we can meet and play against our heroes.

Paul was my first backgammon heroe. Thank you RIP
