The absolute value of a conventional semi-final round bye into the finals in terms of the number of ABT points or dollars of prize pool equity the bye conveys to the player receiving it dwarfs first round byes by an order of magnitude. They are simply not equivalent. A player who receives a contingent bye because they were the only player who had not previously gotten a bye is receiving something of expected value comparable to the byes received earlier by the other players - after factoring in that they only realize an actual bye half the time.
