It was considered, but rejected. It is an unnecessary complication. Keeping the ABT points determined solely by the final place of finish is simple. We expect second place and first consolation to be of equal value; special casing 3-way ties would change that. Calculating points would require that reported results include information about 3-way ties. What if there is a 5-way tie at the end and less valuable byes are given? Do we try to adjust for those? And finally, if we argue that a small variation in equity from a late contingent bye should alter ABT points, then shouldn't a similar small variation from an early bye be corrected as well? Just not worth it. We went with KISS.
