New standard method for resolving 3-way ties on the ABT

Why do players only hedge late in the tournament if all matches are of equal absolute value? Why not hedge $1000 in round 1 if advancing then is worth exactly the same as advancing to the finals?

Yes, the percentage increase is similar between all byes. But not so with absolute value.
