Rich--You have done a fine job explaining in a few different ways that the value of a first round bye AT THE TIME OF THE ORIGINAL DRAW is small. The value of a first round bye at the time of the original draw is not important as it relates to this thread. The value of the bye at the time of the final 3 draw is important. If a player gets a first round bye then loses his first match anyway, the value of that bye is zero after the loss.
