My $.02 for what it's worth:

I play on FIBS using JavaFibs as a client. It shows + when I'm ahead in the race and - when I'm behind.

I analyze my matches with XG, which uses the opposite convention. I've gotten used to mentally converting between the two and don't get confused (by that at least, the rest of the game is still a big mystery to me)

It would be nice to have a standard convention, and I don't particularly care which one. As they say, "the nice thing about standards is that we get to have so many of them."

If forced to choose, I'd adopt the JavaFibs convention, i.e. if I'm ahead in the race 60 to 65 then the difference is reported as +5.
