Hi Stick, I don't remember you being "livid" but you were animated for sure. Remember, you and I were in total agreement on the correct decision over the board.

I hastily put the position in from memory in my room, and it says that white is merely 51% in the position. Making it no double/ take. The match score made it double/ take. But Ed failed to double without much thought. I asked him later and he said: It's in Woolsey's book, no double. In fact, he continued, if there were TWO checkers up I think it is a double then and still a take.

I felt strongly he should hesitate and think, to allow his opponent to appreciate the gravity of the situation... Then double. I believe that over 30% of open players will pass this.

By the way, I don't know why the hesitation and thinking provokes passes, but it works.

You asked for a money play. I'd double, but expect my opponents to take it.
