why is this still haunting us?

10+ years ago Olivier Egger argued that cube-adjusted was better than live cube for SW3 rollouts because SW's cube handling was unreliable. He never (AFAIK) presented evidence. I guess it didn't hurt that SW rolled out twice as fast if you didn't have to bother with a live cube.

In today's state-of-the-art there are still knowledgeable individuals who follow Egger's suggestion (nowadays using SW4). But I wonder how much of an impediment rests with the continued pain of doubly long rollouts when a live cube is used by SW.

Meanwhile, GNU-bg (live cube) rolls along without the guilt, much more quickly than its senior cousin, from what I'm told.

Whom do you trust??
