Sassan Gammon racing stats

In Sassan Gammon, which was played quite a bit this weekend by a bunch of sadists, you roll three dice and then your opponent removes one of them and you play the remaining two dice normally.

In regular backgammon, the mean pipcount is eight and one sixth (exactly), with a standard deviation of about 4.3 (exact value is square root of 665/36).

In Sassan Gammon, the mean pipcount is about 6.14 and the standard deviation is about 2.73. The exact values are 221/36 and square root of 9683/1296.

I'm assuming that your opponent chooses the smallest pipcount possible, so this can only realistically be applied to racing. Most of the time, that involves avoiding doubles, but not always, such as when rolling 114, 115, or 116.
