Yes..I recall those days and also how the "expected" winners started doing better once cup and the box became standard.

I also recall back in the early 80's when I lived in LA. Players yelling at each other to shake their dice, especially when one was having a good and lucky box run.

I'd be fine if baffle boxes were used LOTS more in tourneys. Somewhere around here I have one of two of them that fold up and easily fit in the BG board.
