In Response To: A story about using cups and a baffle box. (Bob Koca)

Two things Larry Strommen told me:

1) Some baffle boxes don't even have pins -- they just are chutes with a couple joints to change ONE direction.

2) If the pins aren't properly placed it is possible to angle the throw such that the dice can miss the pins completely.

I recall a demo at The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Balls were dropped vertically into a set of pins, then collected in bins at the bottom. The resulting distribution was Gaussian. I went back later to see what the pin location was and the demo was gone (probably in storage). I don't know if this sheds light on proper pin positioning for baffle boxes or not, but it seemed promising.
