spliting after villain made a point

Dear forum,

Is it always correct to split your backcheckers with 4-1 5-1 3-2, afteryour opponent made a point with something like 4-2 & 5-3. Is so I would appreciate some comments why it is like that. In my intermediate brain it feels more logic to try EVERYTHING you can to make your own points......Confused.....
