4 team 2 advance tiebreaks, LL baseball

There was a thread here a month ago about the tiebreaks used at the nations cup. There teams were put in 4 team brackets. A round robin was played and the top two advance. The little league world series has a similar system. http://www.littleleague.org/media/newsarchive/Unknown_Dates/mediaschedule.htm Their tiebreak system has much larger problems than the ones identified for backgammon. If you want to think of some on your own first come back later to read the rest of the post. You should also know that the games are 6 innings and there is a 10 run mercy rule active I thnk after 4 complete innings.

----

1) Suppose that team A has gone undefeated. Team D finsished at 1-2 and now team B at 1-1 is playing team C at 0-2. The game results so far were:

A 5-0 over B in 6 innings. A 9 - 0 over C in 6 innings and A 2-0 over D in 6 innings.

B 8-4 over D in 6 innings and D over C 7-2 in 6 innings.

The score in the bottom of the 4th is C 9 B 0 with C having the based loaded and 2 outs. What should be team C's strategy in order to advance and why?

2) Suppose that team C in the above situation strikes out to end the inning. Team B then scores 3 runs in the top of the 5th. What is the one slim chance that team C still has of advancing?

3) New situation. Suppose that Team D lost all 3 games. Team A is 2-1. Team B at 2-0 is playing team C at 1-1. Give a situation where team B would prefer scoring 0 runs in their turn at bat over scoring 1 run.
