Where to get a bug free new GNU ?

I'm at me WI lake house for a couple days to study and chill b4 Madison and want to replace this older GNU (it crashed when running multicore) with a stable one, but am concerned about the virus stuff I've been reading about.

This is my stepson's comp and he cut my balls off if I virus it up, although he probably has it well protected.

Op Sys on this comp is Window's Vista.
