I guess I do mean it different than both of you mean it. I was snowballing live tournaments in with the statement. In other words travel expenses + hotel expenses + meal allocation + entertainment funding - money made from backgammon that weekend leaves about everyone in the hole.

For online players they have to not only beat the person they're playing but they have to beat the rake on top of that, which dwiddles down the amount of true winner's even further. (that's dwiddles btw, not dwindles!) What Daniel said is of course true too.
