I slot 21 and 51 but never 41. Not even at gammon go do I slot 41.

After I split pretty much everything plays well.

The 41 rollout on my site for pure gammon go is somewhat clear that slotting is better. I believe at some other special match scores, like -4 -2 (as the -4 player) it may be even more correct technically to slot with an opening 41.

I can't argue that basically everything plays good for you after splitting, but the trade off in my opinion is immense. In short, by slotting versus weaker competition you do one of two things, both being an advantage in one form or another. First off, you may get away with the slot and have developed your position quite nicely. If you don't get away with it you get a checker or more sent back, thus complicating and lengthening the game v. the weaker player. It's a win/win and a no brainer for me, slot slot slot.
